NNRM #2: Wrath Goddess Sing

by Maya Deane

"No good comes from talking to dolphins."

I love the idea that gender incongruence was the first sapience. That nature sings of death and sex. Achilles' rumination on the nature of love was short but punchy. Trans women are magic.

Arthur C. Clarke defined magic relative to technology.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Raymond Teller linked magic to simple human effort.

Sometimes, magic is just someone spending more time on something than anyone else might reasonably expect.

They're both right - there is a world beyond your perception, full of truths that shape reality. These secrets can be learned: they have names like 5-alpha reductase and sex hormone-binding globulin and 17-beta-estradiol. And if you spend enough time drawing heat from fire and shattering light with prisms then you, too, can practice magic.

This book doesn't ask if Achilles was a trans woman, it tells you she always was one.
